| Theory of Machines and Mechanisms by Oxford University Press, USA Great kinematics, poor everything else | When it came to the other sections of the book, it seemed to lack much information. a prime example is in the gears section. if you did not read the book in chronological order, you would not understand later chapters. example if you were interested in worm gears, and you didn't read the spur gears section you would be completely lost. For this reason i would say it does not make a good book for reference as it may not be clear if you will need to do some hunting later.
Beyond the kinematics i would recommend RL Norton's book for machine designing.
| | Theory of Machines and Mechanisms by Oxford University Press, USA A classic which a passionate Mechanical Engineer should have | | This was my textbook in my undergrad and which I cherish having around me. Gives a comprehensive treatment of kinematics uptill the level demanded for a practising mechanical engineer. | | Theory of Machines and Mechanisms by Oxford University Press, USA Product Description | Theory of Machines and Mechanisms provides the foundation for the study of displacements, velocities, accelerations, and static and dynamic forces required for the proper design of mechanical linkages, cams, and geared systems. The authors present the background, notation, and nomenclature essential for students to understand the various and independent technical approaches that exist in the field of mechanisms, kinematics, and dynamics. Coverage of all analysis and development methods is balanced, with the use of both analytic and graphic tools. This text is ideal for senior or graduate students studying mechanical engineering, taking a kinematics and/or machine dynamics course. Features Includes an introduction to kinematic coefficients, which clearly separates kinematic (geometric) effects from operating speed and other dynamic dependences, and unifies the coverage of linkages with that for cams and geared systems Contains entirely new chapters on the analysis and design of flywheels, governors, and gyroscopes Provides graphical and analytical solutions to exercises, now verified by professional CAD software with an accuracy rate of better than one percent Offers new, quality illustrations, now in two colors Solutions Manual and PowerPointRG Overheads available to adopters only |
