| The Pillars of the Earth by NAL Trade Superb! |
Yes, the book was lengthy....but, oh so worth it.
I loved the characters and even better, I loved that the story spanned so many years. By the time it ended, I felt like I knew them personally.
I really enjoyed reading about 12th century England. And who would think a story with the main plot being about the building of a cathedral would be so great? That's because of the great writing and the great sub-plots. |

When I went to the bookstore to pick up the book, I was standing in line to pay when I was approached. This man walked up to me & asked if I planned on reading the ENTIRE book (as if stopping half way is an option). I informed him that yes, I intend to read the whole book & that I will read the next one after which is just as large, if not a little longer. This man was sure surprised!
What surprised me most of all was just how fast I read this huge book. I bought it on a Saturday & finished the next Thursday. I could not put it down. The characters are so complete you feel like you have known them from page 1.
This book brought me back to my college days, learning about different types of architechure & the inspiration behind the world's most beautiful buildings. Much of the material was not as eye openening for me as it was for some others I spoke to (my art history degree stands me in good stead here). I was fascinated to hear other's points of view on the building process & how intruigued they were by the descriptions. That's what made me want to read the book.
Overall this book while large is a real pageturner! This isn't just meant for those who enjoy historical novels, anyone with a heart would love this story just as much! |

| i bought this book by friend's recommendation but it's the most boring thing i have ever read. the presentation was good, also the volume's weight... but the content utter boringness! easy to read, maybe too easy, can't keep myself entertained through the pages. |
