Another Great Mystery by Riechs

I always jump on a new Kathy Riechs book at the library but since I got my Kindle my days of having to wait my turn at the libary are over. I loved this book, just like all the others. Her main character, Tempe, is believable (probably because Reichs draws on her own rich experience in forensics) as the part-time American and part-time Canadian expert in anthropology/forensics with a cat, a bird, two men and lots of boney mysteries to solve. Can't wait until the next one!

Wish I had read the other books in the series...

...then I would know who everyone is and how they all impact each other. Very intriguing story line. Keeps your attention and makes you not want to put it down until you have finished.

Huge Disappointment - Not Recommended for Ryan Fans

I have been avidly following the Tempe Brennan series, not only because of the suspense and forensic science, but also because of the ongoing romance between Tempe and Andrew Ryan. I was hoping that Bones to Ashes would allow Tempe and Ryan to become much closer emotionally than Ms. Reichs has allowed in past books. Unfortunately, this novel was a huge disappointment - for the first time, I had to struggle to finish the book. Ms. Reichs completely ripped the relationship to shreds, and did not give readers any sense of closure at the end of the novel. I am tired of waiting a year for the next novel to find out what happens with Ryan, only to be disappointed again and again.

Better Book

Well I'm happy now. Kathy Reichs is slowly getting back to her style of writing...well somewhat. I was ready to give up on this series after Cross Bones, but now she's coming back strong. Her last book was a little better but this one is a lot. Ms. Reichs is slowly getting back to her original writing style. This book actually was more realistic than her previous two or three books. The characters seem to come alive more. Unlike some others, I'm happy that Ms. Reichs took the time to tell us about some of Tempe's childhood. I'm not an all action all the time reader. I enjoy getting to know the characters and their reasoning behind their actions especially in a long series. I loved that Ms. Reichs brought Tempe's sister, Harry about to meddle around some. I enjoyed the mystery to this one. I loved learning about leprosy. I didn't know a lot about it so I definitely got into that part of the mystery. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a medical mystery. It's definitely better than most of the books that Patricia Cornwell has been putting out recently.

Innocence defiled

Forensic anthropologist, Dr.Temperance Brennan, known to her friends and colleagues as Tempe, is frustrated with her inability to determine the nature of the disease which caused unusual deformities in the skeleton of a young female, retrieved from a sleazy photographer. The story develops with the support of her colleagues, Detective Andrew Ryan and Canadian policeman, Hippolyte (Hippo) Gallant who works with the Cold Case Squad of the Canadian police. The bodies of a number of young girls have been discovered and, still haunted by the sudden disappearance of a childhood friend, many years ago, Tempe is convinced that a serial killer has been at work and with more young girls missing, Tempe, Andrew and Hippo begin to connect the owner of a seedy night club and strip show to the porn flicks which they found at the photographer's studio. It's a very exciting, fast read with lots of interesting forensic detail and one which Tempe Brennan fans will love.

Product Description

Temperance Brennan, like her creator Kathy Reichs, is a brilliant, sexy forensic anthropologist called on to solve the toughest cases. But for Tempe, the discovery of a young girl's skeleton in Acadia, Canada, is more than just another assignment. Évangéline, Tempe's childhood best friend, was also from Acadia. Named for the character in the Longfellow poem, Évangéline was the most exotic person in Tempe's eight-year-old world. When Évangéline disappeared, Tempe was warned not to search for her, that the girl was "dangerous."

Thirty years later, flooded with memories, Tempe cannot help wondering if this skeleton could be the friend she lost so many years ago. And what is the meaning of the strange skeletal lesions found on the bones of the young girl?

Meanwhile, Tempe's beau, Ryan, investigates a series of cold cases. Three girls dead. Four missing. Could the New Brunswick skeleton be part of the pattern? As Tempe draws on the latest advances in forensic anthropology to penetrate the past, Ryan hunts down a serial predator.
