| The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems: Sleeping, Feeding, and Behavior--Beyond the Basics from Infancy Through Toddlerhood by Atria Take the Good with the Bad | I began reading this book shortly after my first child was born. I was horribly tired (as most parents are) and deperate to find information that advocated a middle-of-the-road approach. I do believe this book lived up to that expectation. Is this book perfect...absolutely not. But it is a good starting place for someone who needs to regain his or her sanity. I do agree that her opinions are quite strong, and it can be disconcerting at first if your child doesn't react as she expects. But, her expectations do not have to be yours, even if she wrote the book and you didn't. You are the one raising the baby, so go with what you feel is ultimately best.

I have recommended it to everyone I know that has had a baby. As a new mom, I went crazy the first few weeks trying to figure out what to do and when. I got this book at the library, and suddenly everything was clear. I realized that there was a pattern to my son's crying spells and that he did indicate when he wanted to eat, sleep and play. I was just so caught up in the new mom fog that I couldn't see it for myself. This book gave me guidance. And I'm not kidding, magically my baby was a new baby- and this mom was a new mom. Now I had an idea of how my day would go- like "I can't go to the store when he wakes up because he's going to want to eat right away", thus avoiding a crying fit at the store. I do understand that babies generally tend to fall into their own routine after the first few weeks, but I honestly think that this book helped us to get into a routine quicker. And everyone was happier because of it.
