My new sewing bible!

I cannot say how much I love, love, love this book. I've recently started sewing and I've been looking for a book just like this. This book is perfect for the young, hip sewer. In all of the other sewing books I've purchased, there were only a few great patterns in each one. This book has them all in one place. There is a nice range of projects from a man's tie to a cute canine coat. I especially liked the Mod Cape and the Naughty Secretary Skirt. Diana's instructions are nice and clear. She really goes over everything in detail. I only wish I could take one of her classes!

a lot of stuff in here

This book has information on sewing machines, sewing supplies, fabrics, stitches, hand sewing, etc. It also includes some of the most fun (and pretty) beginner/easy patterns I've seen in a starter book. So, if you want to start off well-versed, well-supplied, and with an interesting and varied set of patterns, this is an excellent choice.

This book has great comprehensive information, but it is a little verbose. So, if you're looking for a QUICK beginner's guide to sewing, Sew Fast, Sew Easy, by Meyrich, is a great option.

Perfect for ambitious beginners

An excellent book for beginners. I've done a little sewing before, making bags and altering clothes a bit, but had never attempted clothing before. Diana goes over everything you need to know before getting started, and has patterns for everything from the super-easy pillow to the more difficult dress/pencil skirt/other clothes. I skipped past the pillow because I really wanted the book to make the clothes, and went right into the wrap skirt. I made the small because I wasn't sure of the sizing and figured with that type of skirt it wouldn't be a big deal if it was too small, and I think it fits the way it should (I'm a size 28). My next project will be the pencil skirt, which I'm hoping will turm out as well as the wrap one! Also, the patterns included are really easy to follow, and perfect if you've never used one before!

great how to

I have been sewing for about 13 years, but I will definately want to keep this "how to" around as a resource. It breaks down just about everything there is to home sewing in very clear (and often funny) steps & pics. I am teaching my sister-in-law how to sew & she went out after our first lesson when I showed her this book to buy it. It's a must for first timers & great for those that like a refresher or a comprehensive guide on fabric, notions, embellishments & evrything in between.

Not exactly what I wanted

Don't get me wrong; there is much about the Sew Everything Workshop that is worth checking out. The information is good and clearly explained, the techniques are solid and the writing style is fun. But even with all that, I felt that there was something lacking. Maybe it is me, but I'm still looking for a sewing book that really breaks down the nuts and bolts in a way that lets me put them back together into the things that I want to make. The deconstruction in this book just didn't do it for me. I'm keeping it as a desk reference, but I'll still be looking for something else.
