| Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot? by Revell Loved the content but books fell apart | | The content of the book was great. I was very disappointed in the making of the book. I personally bought 13 of the books at 3 different locations and everyone of them fell apart. I was hoping the girls that I purchased the books for would be able to keep these for many years or share with their friends...but I don't believe that will be happening. Who wants to look at a book that you are spending more time picking up the pages then being able to read them? | | Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot? by Revell wow | | this is the most sexist, feminist, male hating, goddy book i have ever read. a complete waste of my time. save yourself from this abomination. | | Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot? by Revell not that hot | This book is divided into 2 main chapters:
chapter 1 (your accidental image)
- your taget market: what are guys thinking?
- is your closet too hot? you are what you wear
- the art of the body: tattoos and piercings
- the art of the face: makeup, friend or foe
- the entourage: birds of a feather flock together
- the tease: could you be one?
- the sexual sexy girl: what's sex got to do with it?
- the anti-sexy girl: just one of the guys
chapter 2 (creating an image you love)
- a new sexual revolution: join us
- how hot is too hot: a self-analysis
- the commitment: are you ready
- the dressing party: invite your friends
The book basically encourages teenage girls to look into their wardrobe, analyzes what kind of image they're projecting through their clothing style, and informs them about what (teenage) boys think about it. The book also covers "grey area" issue such as getting tattoos, wearing make-up, and making-out sessions.
My only disappointment with the book is the authors tone of voice. At one point, she's funny and cheerful, and at another, she's a littttttle... bit too demanding and authoritative. I know that it's black or white when it comes to the word of God but, I still think that she could have used better choice of words to encourage these teenagers to live Holy, not to a.s.a.p. throw away this book. It would also be nice if she encourages these girls to cover up themselves, not just for honouring God and not tempting their spiritual brothers, but also for themselves. But yeah.. that's my personal opinion. This's a great book :) | | Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot? by Revell One of the *bestest* :) books I have EVER read!!! | | I am not under 13 but I just didn't want to register.... so about the book, it is a really good book that I think all teenagers should read because I really felt like Hayley was talking to me!!! She just said some things that really made me feel like I WAS worthy of god's love and not some boys love that won't mean anything 5 or 10 years down the road... also it talked about how low-cut shirts, when guys see a little bit of cleavage they think, "hey I wonder what is beneath that shirt..." so it just made me feel like I never want to wear a lower cut shirt again because I don't want guys thinking and talking about me that way... Thank you Hayley DiMarco for writing this awesome book and I really appreciate it. | | Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot? by Revell just like all the others | | There have been many books written for Christian teens and coeds on the subject of modesty. I've read many of them. DiMarco's book offers nothing new, other than the fact that unlike many of the other books on this subject matter tell you to be modest, quote scripture and leave it at that, never telling you how being immodest impacts guys, or better yet, how your Grandpa's chess buddies are checking you out as well as all the teen guys when you show it all off. I read this book in an hour, it didn't have that much substance at all. You won't get anything new from this, especially if your youth pastor and later on, college minister, have talked about this subject and have shelves filled up with books on modesty. I find it even more ironic that this book came out some four seasons after high-end fashion designers started to cover models up, claiming that the sexy "skank" look was out. Last year Vogue ran a piece on this issue, claiming that showing skin is out, at least for the present. I'm all for Christian living and all, but maybe if Christians held each other accountable more and stopped living for the world and calling themselves "carnal Christians" then maybe some of these books on modesty would have some effect. But as is, there is a lot of cr*p going on in churches, including teen and college aged girls dressing immodestly, that books like this will get ignored. Its time to stop beating the dead horse and look for the elephant in the room. As for this book, I think I'll quote King Solomon: There's nothing new under the sun. If you've read any other books on modesty, pass this one up. | | Sexy Girls: How Hot Is Too Hot? by Revell Product Description | | Every teenage girl wants to be sexy--she wants to be noticed, to be attractive. But what is "sexy," really? Do teen girls know what they are saying about themselves by the way they dress? Popular author Hayley DiMarco wants to help them figure it out. Sexy Girls is an honest and provocative look at everything sexy--from clothes and self-presentation to body image. With her approachable style and wit, Hayley shows teen girls - why little things called hormones affect the way guys look at girls - what girls are really saying by the way they dress - what God thinks about teens trying to be sexy With quizzes, sidebars, and questions for reflection, Sexy Girls is the perfect opportunity for girls to figure out who they are and how they are going to present that image to their peers. |
