| This book caters more to non-fiction. I still found some great ideas to promote my novel, Heaven Scent, and I think it's a valuable book for anyone who is promoting/marketing a book. |

I mean the book does have a lot of useful tips and especially if you are brand new to the promote your book business, this book is just right to help you get going. But for a more savvy book promoter like myself this book just didn't have enough pizazz to it to get me really excited. (I prefer Plug Your Book! Online Book Marketing for Authors, Book Publicity through Social Networking and Guerrilla Marketing for Writers : 100 Weapons to Help You Sell Your Work for a more meaty approach).
But, hey! You can never get enough good ideas to help you sell your book (at least in my opinion), which is why I went for this book anyway. Especially since the price wasn't too bad I thought, "Why not?"
So, what did I like most about the book? Again, if you are new to book promoting it is full of fun tips that are quick and easy to learn. If you are more sophisticated you can still learn a lot like how to write a good press release, book signing tips for authors, tips to become a public speaker, tapping into the library market, and selling your book on the road.
These are all standard and still very useful approaches. It's just so much publicity these days for books (and Ebooks) is internet based and this book has very little information about how to approach any of that (unlike Plug Your Book! Online Book Marketing for Authors, Book Publicity through Social Networking, which is packed with advice along these lines.
In conclusion, enjoy the book for what it can give you and then continue to build your library with other useful material on book promotion. You certainly will find something in this book to stimulate your thinking and your sales. And, even those few extra tips you didn't know before will be worth the read. Simply put, the introverted nature of the writer does not usually mesh with the extroverted requirements of promoting a book.

| Save your money & avoid this one. Dan Poynter's books are much better and have tons of ideas for the self-publisher. This was more of a leaflet than a book, and most of the information was not useful, extremely broad and amateurish (ie, 'Try promoting through the internet!'). It didn't give specific rescources, websites, media outlets, etc. You can find much better info online or through other books. |
