Surprised by Truth: 11 Converts Give the Biblical and Historical Reasons for Becoming Catholic by Basilica Press Awesome Book!
I devoured this book! I read the whole thing in a day. I plan to buy this book as gifts to friends in the faith and to my Mom who since I joined the church has become more interested in it. It's an inspirational journey of Biblical reasons for becoming Catholic. Nothing is more attractive then the truth. As a Protestant convert to the Catholic Church I found parts of my own journey in each story here. As well as a deepening in my understanding of how to Biblicaly defend many of the Protestant questions I've been asked by friends and family in a more complete way.
If you're read this book and find it's prompted more questions you can call into Catholic Answers radio program and talk to Patrick Madrid or Scott Hahn. :) The fact that your curious is in and of itself a prompting of the Holy Spirit. Harden not your hearts. I know that's difficult not to do. Mine was pretty hardened against the Catholic church but my reasons were blind. Once you know the Catholic Church you'll come to lover her. |
Surprised by Truth: 11 Converts Give the Biblical and Historical Reasons for Becoming Catholic by Basilica Press Great, diverse stories
With the diversity of these 11 testimonies, many people can be able to connect to where they come from. In different ways, many stories connect to my background and ongoing struggle to find truth. After reading "The Catholic Verses" by Dave Armstrong, this book has helped to reincorce my doubts about my Evangelical faith. This book was entertaining to read and has many important points.

Surprised by Truth: 11 Converts Give the Biblical and Historical Reasons for Becoming Catholic by Basilica Press Enlightening and Personal
I really enjoyed this book. It is a collection of personal conversion stories from Roman Catholic converts (protestants, mostly). A great deal of RCC doctrine is discussed, but in the context of the personal accounts. It was helpful to read how other people have grappled with various doctrinal issues before making a decision to join the RCC. Especially helpful if you are considering conversion to Catholicism.
Surprised by Truth: 11 Converts Give the Biblical and Historical Reasons for Becoming Catholic by Basilica Press excellent reading.
Very good! Page turner. I would recommend this book to anyone who was a sincere Protestant Christian in love with Jesus, and found themselves with the overwhelming joy and happiness at the unthinkable: to find themselves finally home at Rome. Recently reverted to the Catholic Church, I laughed and cried and giggled my way through nearly every page, as these conversion stories brought back sweet memories of my own reversion. Each soul goes through the same experiences I did when being surprised by truth! There is no place like home.

I have learned more from the testimonies in this book than I have learned in any catechism class. I highly recommend this book for anyone with questions about the Catholic faith. Each chapter explains how every author came to see the truth of the Catholic Church. Outstanding, eye-opening testimonies.
Surprised by Truth: 11 Converts Give the Biblical and Historical Reasons for Becoming Catholic by Basilica Press Product Description
Powerful testimonies of Evangelicals who became Catholic These eleven personal conversion accounts are unlike any you've ever read. They're packed with biblical, theological, and historical proofs for Catholicism. Each year thousands of atheists, Evangelicals, Mormons, Fundamentalists, and Pentecostals are being surprised by Catholic truth and these converts tell you why. In his foreword Scott Hahn described his reaction to "Surprised by Truth": "While reading each of these incredible journeys I laughed, cried, grunted affirmations, and basically relived my own journey into the Catholic Church. I heard echoes of my own struggles in their words. I relived the anguish I experienced on that lonely and sometimes frightening path of conversion, and I relived the deep, abiding joy of coming home. But enough, Read these stories. They're prayerful, heavy-on-doctrine, evangelical, scriptural witnesses of people who discovered that what they had once thought was the most 'unbiblical' church is really the Church of the Bible."
