Brilliant

Just 'brilliant'! That's my review. This book is a 'must read' for every female! :) It is positive, hopeful, motivating, and reminds readers the true privilege of being a woman.

Beautiful little book.

Dr. von Hildebrand has a really wonderful way of explaining things. This little gem of a book clearly lays out God's design for women. I understand even more after reading this what John Paul the Great meant by the "genius of woman".

a must read for both female and male readers.

Dr Alice Von Hildebrand is to the point on how our culture has it so wrong in the our view of male and female. Our modern day culture has falsely made women think that they deserve everything and women have fallen for this horrible lie. We have turned our backs on our men and made them think that they are unworthy of praise. I recommend this book to all young adults to read so that their eyes may be opened to the lies of the modern day feminist movement.

The Most Poorly-Written Book I Have Ever Read

To put it briefly, this book is just one big mess of hyperbole, ramblings, unsupported statements (no matter how much she claims that random quotes are "proof" of her opinions), and unintellectual drivel. It reads like a 20-year-old's blog post. She makes sweeping, unsupported statements, buys into racist stereotypes, completely ignores third wave feminism (claiming that "all feminists want to be like men"), and is her own shining example of what she is arguing for in the book: women should not be/want to be intelligent, rational, or powerful influences in academia, politics, or theology; they should be like the author, who is irrational, unintellectual, and poor in stature in comparison to true theologians that the Church holds in high esteem (she is no Aquinas or Rahner, and neither is she an Edith Stein or Teresa of Avila).

I am saddened to see the rave reviews that other people on Amazon have given to this poor excuse of a radical feminism work. I am also utterly shocked and dismayed that this woman received a doctorate from Fordham University. They should take it back.

The Privilege of Being a Woman

Dr. Alice von Hildebrand has a remarkable talent sharing her insights and wisdom culled from history, philosophy and theology across the centuries. The Privilege of Being a Woman is written with a mix of modern experience along with her sharp wit. This thin volume shows that true Christianity truly values women and recognizes their value, particularly in the complimentarity of men and women, the importance of procreation (pg. 47) and the "metaphysical bond between womanhood and life" which is "an honor indeed." (pg. 61) The only thing better is to hear her in person!

Book Description

Women historically have been denigrated as lower than men or viewed as privileged. Dr. Alice von Hildebrand characterizes the difference between such views as based on whether man's vision is secularistic or steeped in the supernatural. She shows that feminism's attempts to gain equality with men by imitation of men is unnatural, foolish, destructive, and self-defeating. The Blessed Mother's role in the Incarnation points to the true privilege of being a woman. Both virginity and maternity meet in Mary who exhibits the feminine gifts of purity, receptivity to God's word, and life-giving nurturance at their highest.
