Required reading...

...if your a 20 year spiritual advisor for a leading preisdential candidate of mommy's party. I was wondering why the omission of the part where mommy comes under an imagined spitting viper attack. hmmm...anyway...
Michael Moore could turn this into a movie. I'm sure Susan Sarandon could play "mommy".

Why Mommy Is a Democrat by Jeremy Zilber

Worrisome

This book is political propaganda aimed at children. It makes blanket statements that imply ALL Democrats have the same righteous views, while diplaying pictures with subtile imlications that Republicans (elephant) are the bad guy. The Democrat party and the Republican party are neither that admirable, nor are they completely villainous.

One sided political books like this and the conservative book "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed!" by Katharine DeBrecht and Jim Hummel should be kept away from children. Teach them right and wrong without political spin. That way when they grow up they can see things with out a jaded view and can support whomever is doing good, regardless of political affiliation.

Liberals don't have all the right answers, nor do conservatives. To teach a child that one side or the other does, is pure propganda.

A much needed reality-check for the nation...

This book boldly points out, in the simplest ways, the following facts that republicans consistently ignore:

It is a well-established fact that the rich are becoming richer and the poor are growing poorer. To say that "every one is getting wealthier" is beyond delusional. When Bill Gates' income goes up by the millions while Joe Average gets a couple hundred, something is drastically wrong.

Every expert group on terrorism agrees the US and the world are at greater risk of terrorist attack thanks to George Bush's policies. Not only is his system of ignoring civil liberties and starting unprovoked attacks unethical, it's also counterproductive, dangerous, and downright irresponsible. I am tired of the republican party touting itself as the only ones who can "save" us from terrorists; this is just a fear-tactic used to garner votes. In fact, all republicans are doing is wasting enormous sums of money all the while making the entire world hate us--thus increasing our risk of a terrorist attack.

Government could easily help stop the rising cost of health care if it stopped giving tax breaks to the richest Americans and instead used that money to supplement health care expenses. Yes, the top bracket of wealthy Americans pays the largest percentage of taxes--but they have far, far more excessive, unnecessary income to give (and both can and should be giving more), as opposed to the average American who is struggling just to make it from one month to the next.

While many republicans rail against programs like welfare and universal health care, I think a few days on the street would change their tune....Let them live as one of the Americans who relies on welfare to keep him out of absolute poverty and I have a feeling their thoughts on the program would change. The first time they could not get a much-needed medical procedure for lack of money I'm sure they would change their opinions on health care as well. The fact that we are the only modernized nation in the world without universal health care is embarrassing, and revolting.

Thank God the nation is finally catching on to the callous, irrational, war-mongering, money-grubbers that the republicans currently in power truly are. I hope their party has the same success in the next election that it saw in 2006. ;)

The indoctrination is not the good moral values...

One reviewer wrote that "if good moral values is indoctrination...". This reviewer missed something. Frankly, some of the books good moral values are not so good. Or Moral. And yes, it is indoctrination. "Democrats make sure they share their toys, just like mommy does". Clearly a subtle remark about wealth redistribution. Also, the comments from another reviewer were right on about no father figure in the book. Clearly, Democrats don't believe a father is required. Even the author himself has a "Partner", instead of a wife. Hey, here's a novel idea: How about NO books about politics for our kids. How about letting them just be kids.

Lighten Up!!!

I think that people are taking this sort of thing too seriously. Lighten up and laugh, even if it is at yourself. This isn't a kids' indoctrination book. It is a satire for adults to laugh at, whether they be Democrats or Reublicans. Actually, I think it is funnier for Republicans, to tell you the truth. I think people should just learn to not be so serious about these things!!!

Book Description

Why Mommy is a Democrat brings to life the core values of the Democratic party in ways that young children will easily understand and thoroughly enjoy. Using plain and non-judgmental language, along with warm and whimsical illustrations, this colorful 28-page paperback depicts the Democratic principles of fairness, tolerance, peace, and concern for the well-being of others. It's a great way for parents to gently communicate their commitment to these principles and explain their support for the party.

Why Mommy is a Democrat may look like a traditional children's book, but it definitely isn't just for children. With numerous subtle (and not-so-subtle) satirical swipes at the Bush administration and the Republican party, the book will appeal to Democrats of all ages.
