Motivating

I think this book is an incredible motivation for young people looking to gain some insight into the sometimes confusing world of the stock market.

Tim has a style that is hit or miss with most people, some love him some love to hate him. I think that his stories, and more importantly his transparency provide an important lesson in risk management and discipline.

Inspiring and Educational

A++++. This is a must read book, a true rags to riches tale. Tim documents his incredible feat of turning $13k to over $2mil, he shows that you do not have to be a rocket scientist to make it in the finance world, just a lot of determination, ambition, and persistence.

Timothy dissects the hedge fund world through his own journey on starting a hedge fund. The strict industry regulations of raising money and his poor outside investment not related to stock trading did eventually force him to close his fund. Tim gets a lot of unfair flack for it but it is a lesson to be learned and he shares it with you even if it wasn't his finest moment.

For a guy who is only 26 years old, Tim's journey inspires me and it will inspire you too. It is such a well written and exciting book you will not want to put it down. I didn't. This is still only the beginning of his journey, you will undoubtedly be seeing more of him in the future.

You can't help but smile

You can't help but smile when you read An American Hedge Fund by Timothy Sykes. It's an interesting story that has a reasonably happy ending... that is really just the start for Tim. What you've got here is a very young guy who has found a passion and is turning it into his life's work. Am I talking about trading stocks? Not exactly.

True. Tim started out as a small-time day trader with just over $12,000 from his Bar Mitzvah. His parents decided to let him play the stock market with the money, figuring he'd probably lose it all quickly and learn some great lessons along the way.

Instead, Tim grew his little wad of money into $1.65 million and started a small hedge fund. This book chronicles his experience, detailing some of the highs, and plenty of the lows.

You see, although Tim learned how to trade by the rules, he didn't always follow the rules. I don't mean securities laws... I mean the rules about when you buy and when you hold and when you sell. When he got too greedy, he lost money. When he got too skittish, he didn't profit as handsomely as he could have. He knew the right way to trade but couldn't always show enough discipline to do it.

Yet Tim is willing to share the highs and the lows with his readers and basically lay out the start of his career for the world to see. He wrote this book to give ordinary people a peek into the life of a day trader. I think the book would have been even better with a stronger editor and a little bit more of a "how-to" for those interested in trading the way Tim does. I think the book sets readers up to expect some instructions on stock trading, when really it's more of a simple look into his life and not a tool to teach trading.

I offer my kudos to Tim Sykes for doing something that many his age haven't been able to: make a ton in the stock market by starting small, lose a fair amount too (he closed his hedge fund when it was about 35% off its high), learn life lessons from those losses, and write a book that's been largely well-received and enjoyed by readers.

He's going to go far, because he's got the creativity and gumption to do it. Tim's got a huge goal: to get ordinary people interested in stock trading and teach them the fundamentals so they can do it. No, everyone won't make a million and everyone won't be able to use Tim's techniques successfully. That's beside the point... Tim is opening up a new world to people and breaking the mold of the stuffy, boring investment guy.

Tim is living his entrepreneurial dream, and I can't wait to read his next book. (There is a next book, isn't there?)

Tim Sykes is the REAL DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This book is not only amazing, but it is a very moving story. Tim is the type of guy that takes chances, risks everything, and it not afraid to teach you how to become wealthy. His tale is a priceless journey that takes you from the very beginning of his stock trading career to making millions and how he did it. This book is for anyone who wants to learn how to invest and may not have alot of money to start with. Tim proves that you can take a few thousand dollars and turn it into millions without being a professional Wall Street Guru!!!!!!!!!!! If you are thinking about buying this book, you will definitely not regret the purchase. After reading, you will be hooked on following Tim Sykes daily on his website watching his daily stock trades as he walks you through his daily trading mentality.

Inspiring

An American Hedge Fund is an inspiring read for anyone interesting in investing in, or trading stocks. Timothy Sykes explains in detail his path to creating wealth from an initial investment of a little over $12,000. He also explains his experiences in starting and operating a hedge fund. He puts it all on the line explaining the rules and regulations that govern the industry. And he's not afraid to tell it like it is. An American Hedge Fund is definately a "Buy" "Buy" "Buy."

Product Description

$2 trillion is invested in the hedge fund industry, and yet, due to industry regulations, the general public knows little about them. This book will change everything. Timothy turned $12,000 of Bar Mitzvah gift money into $1.65 million trading thousands of stocks from 1999-2002, managed the #1 Short Bias Hedge Fund from 2003-2006, starred in the television documentary Wall Street Warriors, and appeared regularly on CNBC all before the age of 26. It's been a wild ride. This `Rocky'-like story is the first realistic look at the world of stock trading and hedge funds-it will educate and inspire everyone.
