The Truth About American Foreign Policy

Ann Coulter's thesis in "Treason" is that "whenever the nation is under attack, from within or without, liberals side with the enemy". She looks back several decades (throughout the era following World War II), at the Hiss case, the McCarthy era, the Korea and Vietnam conflicts, the Cold War, and the War on Terror to demonstrate how the Left has always made excuses for America's enemies and has blamed America first.

For example, some liberals to this day believe that Alger Hiss was innocent, despite the irrefutable evidence provided by the Venona cables that Hiss was a Soviet spy.

Coulter's treatment of the hearings involving Senator McCarthy is hilarious. She states that "liberals could not believe that McCarthy would stubbornly refuse to back down in the face of their hysterics. Conservatives are required to lose an argument on purpose whenever some liberal starts sniffling. It's their obligation to let liberals have the last word. Otherwise, the conservative is being arch and cruel." She quotes Hubert Humphrey, who stated that the real reason that liberals hated McCarthy because he immobilized the liberal movement. This is in stark contrast to the commonly held view that he was hated because he destroyed numerous innocent people (Coulter proves that he did not).

Perhaps the most infuriating section of the book is the one in which Coulter recounts how Democrats in Congress used Watergate as an excuse to cut off funding for the South Vietnamese, leading to our ignominious withdrawal from Southeast Asia in April 1975.

I hope that Coulter does not believe that every American who votes Democratic in every presidential and midterm election is a traitor. Many of these people vote solely on economic and social issues. I also do not count as traitors those who oppose wars such as the Iraq War (simply because they believe that the war would fail a cost-benefit analysis) but do so without embracing the poisonous "America is evil" mentality in foreign affairs.

This is a great read to countervail much of the liberal brainwashing we regularly receive about American foreign policy of the last sixty years.

Some Worthy Truths as Twisted by Ann, Still Should Read IT!

McCarthy was a saint! Read it here! OK just kidding,BUT truth is Ann Coulter has many good points about him and the people he went after. You should read this book for these chapters alone. McCarthy has been maligned by a left wing press for too long and reading about just a few good things he did should not hurt anyone. The amazing thing is she does a fine job here with decent research into the facts. I do not say I checked every one but most are clear cut and easy to verify. Plenty of books out there that say he was the devil but just check the other books that those authors wrote to see their party papers. The book has other points you will find eye opening or infuriating depending on your views. Like Coulter's other books vile personal attacks weaken her position and may offend the reader who otherwise may agree with all she says. Without those I would give it maybe 4 stars. Open your mind, give it a read and do some research. AND REMEMBER: If you only get your news and information from the left or the right you have only HALF the story and will always be in the dark as to the true reality around you.

This "book" Is a nightmare of lies and pointless drivel. For some interesting insight on this book, and the propaganda inside get Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right by Al Franken instead. Al's book will show you that Ann is nuttier then a can of Planters.

Another fine work from Ann Coulter

I just finished reading this book today. I realize that I am behind the times but I started it a couple years ago during some air travel, misplaced it and recently rediscovered that I had it. Anyway, what a gem and what a fun read.

Ann writes in a way that connects with the way a common person thinks; with common sense. There is just so much good information locked inside this book; I loved it.

The fact that the liberal left are creeps is already apparant to most people with a brain but Ann Coulter reminds us of some of the details that get forgotten with time. Us folks that work to support the liberals rarely have time to do this type of research and that makes her work very valuable.

Read it....if you are on the side of good, you will love it. Ann is one of my heroes.

One of my very favorite books in the world

Ann Coulter is an excellent writer with one of the sharpest minds around. For me, Treason is one of those rare books that can make you laugh, cry, curse, and shoot at your television. All within the same chapter.

All of her assertions are copiously documented with original facts and direct quotes. You will read some other reviews who accuse her of playing fast and loose with the facts...Well, to be perfectly honest, they are much nastier. However, that simply isn't the case.

I have checked on a number of her facts and found them to be absolutely spot-on.

As I write this, March 19, 2008 there were 2,004 people before me who have reviewed Treason. While I have not read all of the reviews, I did spend a number of hours reading a great many. It should come as no surprise that liberals hate this book, while conservatives love it.

If you think Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were innocent and still defend Alger Hiss, then don't buy this book. You're mind is made up regardless of the facts.

If you're a liberal who thinks Senator Joseph McCarthy is responsible for destroying the lives of thousands...OR...if you are an alleged conservative who feels the need to condemn Senator McCarthy before invoking his name (so as not to offend): you NEED this book.

The chapter on Senator McCarthy is perhaps one of the most moving, enraging, and stirring chapters I've been through in a while. One gets a sense for how close we really came to losing our very nation during those dark times. And believe me, those times weren't dark because of McCarthy, it was the traitors in government, the press, and academia that brought us to the very brink of destruction.

In the end, they ruined McCarthy out of revenge. His own party lacked the courage to stand against the injustice that was done to him. He gave his life so that this nation might survive another 50 years.

As for the rest of the book, it is equally stirring. If you think liberalism is bad, but most liberals are well intentioned, buy this book. The truth will scare you to death.

Product Description

“Liberals’ loyalty to the United States is off-limits as a subject of political debate. Why is the relative patriotism of the two parties the only issue that is out of bounds for rational discussion?”

In a stunning follow-up to her number one bestseller Slander, leading conservative pundit Ann Coulter contends that liberals have been wrong on every foreign policy issue, from the fight against Communism at home and abroad, the Nixon and the Clinton presidencies, and the struggle with the Soviet empire right up to today’s war on terrorism. “Liberals have a preternatural gift for always striking a position on the side of treason,” says Coulter. “Everyone says liberals love America, too. No, they don’t.” From Truman to Kennedy to Carter to Clinton, America has contained, appeased, and retreated, often sacrificing America’s best interests and security. With the fate of the world in the balance, liberals should leave the defense of the nation to conservatives.

Reexamining the sixty-year history of the Cold War and beyond—including the career of Senator Joseph McCarthy, the Whittaker Chambers–Alger Hiss affair, Ronald Reagan’s challenge to Mikhail Gorbachev to “tear down this wall,” the Gulf War, and our present war on terrorism—Coulter reveals how liberals have been horribly wrong in all their political analyses and policy prescriptions. McCarthy, exonerated by the Venona Papers if not before, was basically right about Soviet agents working for the U.S. government. Hiss turned out to be a high-ranking Soviet spy (who consulted Roosevelt at Yalta). Reagan, ridiculed throughout his presidency, ended up winning the Cold War. And George W. Bush, also an object of ridicule, has performed exceptionally in responding to America’s newest threats at home and abroad.

Coulter, who in Slander exposed a liberal bias in today’s media, also examines how history, especially in the latter half of the twentieth century, has been written by liberals and, therefore, distorted by their perspective. Far from being irrelevant today, her clearheaded and piercing view of what we’ve been through informs us perfectly for challenges today and in the future.

With Slander, Ann Coulter became the most recognized and talked-about conservative intellectual of the year. Treason, in many ways an even more controversial and prescient book, will ignite impassioned political debate at one of the most crucial moments in our history.
