| Beyond the Weapons of Our Fathers by Fulcrum Publishing An extraordinary book | This is an extraordinary book -- the profound search over decades of one man, seriously wounded in France in WWII, for the search for how human civilization can ever progress to real peace. Using the inherited papers of generations of his American warrior ancestors back to the 1600's, he explores the different sides of what has led to past violence. Only in understanding that violence of the past is there hope for a future of a civilization that is truly different.
The book often reads as a stage play, though he did not write it that way: ancestors from different eras with different views converse with each other and the author. His research is broad and deep, not only in the many boxes of ancestral documents but in the history of how these difficult questions have been addressed by peoples through the ages.
This really would make an excellent required reading in a peace studies course or a history course. It puts the reader in touch with very difficult questions and very good research in a very readable way. | | Beyond the Weapons of Our Fathers by Fulcrum Publishing A caustic study of the violence that has marked America | | Beyond The Weapons Of Our Fathers by poet and essayist Edward W. Wood Jr. is a close and caustic study of the violence that has marked America since its war of independence, including the terrible toll of the Civil War down to conflicts still vivid in the memory of today's generation. An unflinching look at the intersection of violence and American History, culminating in a passionate call for a better future, Beyond The Weapons Of Our Fathers is especially timely reading in view of today's War on Terrorism and Middle East conflict with Iraq. |

Playing with MarsEdit
O’Reilly: Giles Turnbull: Playing with MarsEdit: “I’ve been involved in the launch of a new web project during the last couple of weeks. Since it relied on heavy use of the Movable Type online publishing system, I thought it would be worth trying out one of the desktop weblogging applications that are floating around these days.”

Five Best Practices for Content Management Application Development

Storage and re-use of images using PHP/GD - Part 1
evolt.org: “Publishing images on the web is nice, but tedious. It would be nice if we could use a system that automates the uploading, storage, converting and resizing of our images. We could feed that system our images once, and retrieve them later in many different formats.”

AWPS Template Builder/Renderer
The Little Page of Beta AppleScripts: “AWPS (Applescriptable Web Publishing System) is a template-based webpage rendering system; basically a framework into which you add your own code, templates and data, and let it do all the hard work of putting these together. The control logic (standard AppleScript) is kept completely separate to the html templates, making design and editing a snap.”
