The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand by Sourcebooks, Inc. Great Beginning book
I bought this book for my team. Many had never taken an accounting course and they seemed to really pick up the terms and concepts addressed in this book. Easy reading with accounting basics and uses a topic we all can relate to, a lemonade stand!
The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand by Sourcebooks, Inc. very good book
I am using this to teach the other non-financial managers at our company. Most of them love it, but one thinks it is silly.
The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand by Sourcebooks, Inc. Easy reading, effective intro to accounting
For someone who had to take accounting for the first time ever, I found this book to be a very effective introduction to the tedious world of accounting. It's a very helpful book in that it gives you a pretty good understanding of the balance sheet and income statement in the context of running a simple business. (It does not really help you much with the cash flow statement.) It's written to help you recall basic fundamentals easily so despite the 'coloring book' feel of the book, I thought the authors did well it achieving their goal.
The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand by Sourcebooks, Inc. GREAT for absolute accounting begginners
If you are looking for a book to help you wrap your head around the fundamentals/basics of accounting, then I whole-heartedly recommend this book.
I had a "Survey of Accounting" class in college, and remember precious little about what I learned. So when I started my business and tried to use some accounting software, I quickly realized that my Accounting knowledge was lacking.
This book took a very fun and very applicable storyline to learning the basics of accounting. It teaches you one simple accounting lesson at a time. I enjoyed it so much, that after I had read the entire book, I sat down at my computer and started to reproduce the storyline in my accounting software. That helped to reinforce the lessons that I had learned.
This book teaches the absolute fundamentals of accounting fairly well. However, I soon realized (in my sit-down with my accounting software) that some topics were not discussed entirely, but implied. The double-entry method was always implied in principle, but not formally named or taught. Most advanced accountants will probably find some topics woefully lacking in this book. But that is because it is a book for people beginning to learn accounting!
Again, I strongly recommend this for beginners, but I would also recommend acquiring other books to supplement your fledgling accounting knowledge. |
The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand by Sourcebooks, Inc. An Excellent Beginner's Text
By Zauditu Mason-Andrews (Miguel's better half)
I am a Chemistry Graduate currently pursuing a Masters in Business Administration. I have absolutely no accounting background and I now feel competent enough to tackle my recommenended accounting text.
The text is simply written and can be comprehended by a child, yet it is interesting and humorous:). It took me one month to read the text and answer all the questions given.
There are a few shortcomings in the text:
1. It lacked summative information at the end of each chapter.
2. Schematic charts and comparative tables would have aided in comprehension an recall.

The Accounting Game : Basic Accounting Fresh from the Lemonade Stand by Sourcebooks, Inc. Product Description
Basic Accounting Fresh From the Lemonade Stand
The world of accounting can be intimidating. But, more often than not, there's no way to avoid it--even non-financial jobs venture into financial jargon and concepts. For those trying to get more done at the office, organize the dollars and cents in a small business or just in need of a refresher, there's no reason to turn to the average number-crunching class again.
The Accounting Game presents financial information in a format so simple and so unlike a common accounting textbook, you may forget you're learning key skills that will help you get ahead!
This book uses the world of a kid's lemonade stand to teach the basics of financial language and records. You'll run your own lemonade stand and make it grow by creating signs to advertise it, borrowing money from Mom, buying lemons and sugar and selling to the whole neighborhood. As you run your stand, you'll begin to understand and apply financial terms and concepts like assets, liabilities, earnings, inventory and notes payable, plus:
--Know the difference between accrual vs. cash accounting methods --Create and understand an income statement and balance sheet --Track inventory using LIFO and FIFO --Create cash statements and understand cash flow and liquidity --Apply your new knowledge to real-life situations
The revolutionary approach of The Accounting Game takes the typically mundane subjects of accounting and business finance and makes them something you can easily learn, understand, remember and use!
The Accounting Game is produced by Educational Discoveries, the training industry's leader in accelerative learning technology. More than 70,000 people have graduated from The Accounting Game, the world's most successful one-day financial seminar.
